Carson City area forecast: Dry and breezy, thunderstorms possible by midweek - Carson Now

dry.indah.link

Afternoon winds will be a touch stronger Sunday and Monday around the Carson City region compared to the last few days, according to the National Weather Service, but not strong enough to warrant any watches or warnings at this time.

Unusually dry conditions along with localized breezy winds will produce a few hours of elevated fire risk, primarily for wind prone locations along and east of the Highway 395/Interstate 580 corridor.

While we should avoid activities that may spark a fire any day, this especially rings true for today and Monday. Avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. Follow local fire restrictions.

Critical fire weather conditions are not expected to be widespread enough nor long enough in duration to warrant Red Flag Warnings.

The locations within the zone for afternoon winds are as follows: Carson City, Carson Valley, greater Reno, Sparks, Verdi, Virginia City, Southern Lyon County, Yerington, Smith Valley, Mina, Schurz, Hawthorne, Mineral County, Northern Washoe County, Empire, Gerlach, Mono County including Bridgeport, Coleville, Lee Vining, Mammoth and Lakes.

Check weather.gov/reno for updates and livingwithfire.info for preparedness tips.

Meanwhile, quiet weather continues through Tuesday with warm days, cool nights, very dry conditions, and typical afternoon westerly breezes. It’s looking like we could see chances for thunderstorms returning the middle into the end of next week, however, at this point it doesn’t appear widespread, according to the weather service.
