The fire weather threats continue for Wyoming, with the Red Flag Warnings set over the southeastern part of the state for Wednesday. Additionally, the threat of severe weather is back for this afternoon as well. The severe weather potential, however, looks to actually enhance the fire weather threat. This is thanks to the potential of strong wind gusts, the fact that the severe threat is over the same area where the fire weather threat is highest, and most importantly the fact that these storms may not have very much rain at all. Humidity values for this afternoon will remain below 20%. So these storms will have little rain but still have all the other factors that severe weather could bring: lightning and wind.
And so the potential for a dry lightning event comes in. Lightning from these storms could start a fire, and wind gusts from them could easily spread any fires started. Any rain from these storms will likely not be able to put out any fires started, so locations such as Cheyenne, Wheatland, Torrington, and Pine Bluffs are at a higher risk for wildfires to start this afternoon. Any outdoor plans in the region should avoid anything related to burning.
As for tomorrow, severe weather will be in the forecast again, but rain chances should be a little bit higher. Dry thunderstorms could still be possible, however, though the risk will be lower. The potential for severe storms will be more widespread across the state for tomorrow as well. The risks will still primarily be strong wind gusts and some hail. Come Friday, the weekend will be off to a sunny, hot, and dry start at least through Saturday.
