The strong thunderstorms early Tuesday morning brought some much needed rain to Connecticut.

Some towns received nearly an inch of rain from the storms that swept into the state around 4 a.m.

With just 1.20 inches so far this month, rainfall is about 1 inch below normal in southwest Connecticut, according to the Northeast Regional Climate Center.

Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks is 1.56 inches below normal for the month. Conditions are so dry that “moderate drought” conditions exist in parts of Litchfield, Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties, according to U.S. Drought Monitor.

The only parts of the state that do not have dry or drought conditions are northeastern Fairfield County and the western third of New Haven County.

For most of Connecticut, rainfall totals Tuesday morning exceeded the amounts from Tropical Storm Isaias on Aug. 4. With 1.38 inches from Isaias, Goshen had the most rain; East Lyme had the least with 0.04 of an inch.

According to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network, with 0.98 of an inch from Tuesday’s storms, Wethersfield had the highest rainfall total in the state.
