WILLOWS — The Ivory/Doe Fire burning in the Glenn County Zone continues to be the largest and most troublesome fire for firefighters as they enter nearly three weeks of the lightning-started fires burning.
The Ivory/Doe Fire, which sits on both state and federal land was at 289,269 acres and 23 percent containment Saturday morning, according to Cal Fire. The fire is burning 18,981 acres on state land. What was formerly the Tatham Fire has now merged with the Ivory/Doe fires, which are all burning as part of the August Complex fires. This did not change overnight.
In the Tehama County Zone the Elkhorn Fire remains the priority for firefighters despite multiple fires burning in the area. The Elkhorn Fire is currently 45,950 acres and 47 percent contained. In the Tehama Zone fire crews are monitoring the potential for southern winds and will plan and implement updated evacuation plans as needed.
There is no expected full containment date as of Saturday morning for the fires burning in the Glenn or Tehama County zones.
Firefighters are continuing to construct direct and indirect control lines, providing structural defense when needed. So far since the start of the fires, 25 structures have been treated, 14 destroyed and one damaged.
The National Weather Service – Sacramento issued a statement Saturday morning saying this weekend’s forecast calls for where temperatures could reach about 100 degrees in the valley, as well as upper 90’s in the foothills. After a warm weekend expected, high and dry temperatures, as well as low winds and small gusts of winds in the foothills next week could fuel fire growth.
Fire personnel did say that dense smoke may limit high temperatures where fires are actively burning.
The air quality conditions remain unhealthy for sensitive groups in Butte County while the fires remain active. Smoke impacts will vary based on wind direction, according to Butte County Air Quality Management District.
