Cool, crisp start to Sunday as dry weather continues - WDBJ7

We couldn’t ask for a better weekend forecast for outdoor activities. Last week’s front delivered lower humidity that will last for several more days. This will lead to cooler, clear nights along with seasonably warm afternoon temperatures. Skies will begin generally clear each morning with a few cumulus and cirrus clouds building during the afternoon along with low to no rain chance through at least Tuesday.

Overnight lows slip to the low to mid 50s under mostly clear skies. Winds remain light to calm.

SUNDAY & MONDAY

The rest of the Labor Day weekend remains very similar to Saturday with an almost tranquil weather pattern lingering for a few more days. The one notable part of the forecast you may feel is the slight uptick in humidity by Labor day. Even then, it’s still much more pleasant than the past few weeks. Overnight lows start in the 50s early Sunday with afternoon highs in the low 80s. Monday morning won’t be quite as cool, and afternoon highs reach the mid 80s. Rain chances remain below 10%.

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN THE NIGHT SKY?

Be sure to check out several planets in the night sky this weekend. Brighter Jupiter and it’s less notable neighbor Saturn will be visible into next week. There are actually several planets visible in the night sky that you can see with either binoculars or a telescope.

Learn more about where to check them out along with other interesting night sky features in our new Weather Wise Guy Podcast. Listen below.

Mars will continue getting brighter. Currently, it is the 5th-brightest celestial object to light up the sky, after the sun, moon, Venus and Jupiter, respectively. However, by late September, Mars will match Jupiter in brilliance and will get even brighter in October.

TUESDAY

Very subtle weather changes are expected during the daylight hours Tuesday. Skies turn partly cloudy with afternoon highs in the mid 80s. It will be a bit on the muggy side once again. Late Tuesday into Wednesday, a cut off low in the Midwest starts to gradually moved eastward at the same time a warm front moves in off the east coast. This will deliver increasing clouds and rain chances that go up starting Tuesday night.

LATE NEXT WEEK

To the west, a large dip in the jet stream will bring a very strong front into the Plains which inches closer each day. At the same time, a strong high pressure system off the eastern coast will pump in additional moisture and clouds. The combination of the two will bring an unsettled end to the week with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible each day along with much cooler temperatures (70s) by the weekend.

The weather becomes more unsettled late in the week with a return of daily scattered showers and storms.

The hurricane season is certainly an active one. The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor 4 areas for possible development through the next 5 days. Visit our hurricane center for the latest on the tropics.
