Pinpoint Weather: Dry and mild pattern lingers into the short work week, but not for long - WFXRtv.com

The quiet and dry weather over the long holiday weekend will continue for one more day as the region enjoys the benefits of high pressure.  The temperatures on Tuesday will be in the middle 80s most locations east of the foothills.  Most locations will start out with plenty of sunshine as we maintain the pattern of dry and mild/warm.  Clouds are expected to arrive late in the day from the east on Tuesday but little in the way of rain is in the cards, with the exception of our eastern counties of Halifax, Charlotte and possibly Appomattox late.

Wednesday still has the high pressure in place but there will be some clouds continue sneaking in under the dome from the east.  The clouds will be sliding in from the Atlantic and there is a good deal of moisture available for rain. The dry air that has dominated for the past few days will be hard to overtake so I believe the rain will have to wait until the lower levels of the atmosphere is saturated before we get some widespread rain. My contention is that the rain will arrive from the east during the day and the rain will mainly be over the Piedmont and along the Eastern Blue Ridge. There will be a bit more cloud cover over the Commonwealth and there is still a chance for rain along the Interstate 81 corridor, but the bulk of the rain and even a few isolated storms, will be east of the Parkway.

Mostly cloudy skies and spotty light rain is in the forecast for Thursday as the high gets eliminated by an approaching cold front. This will keep the skies filled with clouds and the chance for more widespread rain is expected.  The rain will be accompanied by some isolated storms on Thursday as we transition into a bit cooler pattern.

Friday will see rainy and stormy weather again as there will be a continues introduction of moisture from the east.  There are going to be waves of showers and storms over the Coastal Plain that will migrate west to our region. The potential for strong storms is low but we will keep an eye on the amount of rainfall.

Scattered showers and storms looks to be the best forecast for the upcoming weekend with temperatures topping out in the upper 70s.

As for the tropics, once again we are monitoring two systems. Paulette and Rene.  Paulette is expected to stay well out in the Atlantic as Rene is just now leaving the west coast of Africa. Rene is expected to become a hurricane later this week, Paulette may not get to hurricane status. For those playing at home… Rene is the 17th named storm in the Atlantic this season.

There is an area of disturbance the NHC is keeping an eye on just to the SW of Bermuda that may develop tropical characteristics over the next couple of days.

Check out tracking the tropics Tuesday and Wednesday

Overall, we had a nice run of dry weather over the weekend that will transition to rainy weather by the middle of the week.

Stay safe and healthy
