Roadshow Films has released the first trailer for the upcoming Eric Bana-led film adaptation of author Jane Harper’s multi-award winning thriller novel “The Dry”.
Bana plays Australian Federal Police Investigator Aaron Falk who returns to his small home town of Kiewarra after more than two decades to attend the funeral of his childhood friend, Luke.
Luke seemingly killed his wife and child before taking his own life, a victim of the madness of a community suffering from more than a decade of drought.
Falk reluctantly agrees to stay and investigate – in the process opening up old wounds surrounding a secret and the death of a 17-year-old girl.
Falk begins to suspect these two crimes, separated by decades, are connected and struggles to prove not only Luke’s innocence but also his own as he finds himself pitted against the pent-up rage of a terrified community.
Robert Connolly (“Balibo,” “Paper Planes,” “The Bank”) helms the film which also stars Genevieve O’Reilly, Kier O’Donnell and was shot across fifteen townships in Victoria’s Wimmera region. It opens in Australia on New Year’s Day.
