Fall returns, dry week - WDSU New Orleans

FORECAST SUMMARY: Much cooler air as arrived as strong high pressure builds in behind the departed cold front. Morning lows ranged from the upper 30s to the upper 50s. Afternoon high will be in the upper 60s to near 70. The cool flow will prevail through much of the week, allowing for dry, clear, and below-average temps. High pressure will slide east of the area later in the week, drawing highs into the mid 70s starting Thursday and into the weekend, with lows in the 50s. Lows will approach 60 by Sunday morning. RAIN CHANCES: Dry conditions will hold through the week. With the gradual return of moisture later in the week, a few clouds will develop Friday and into the weekend. There will only be a stray shower chance (10%) Friday through Sunday. HURRICANE IOTA: Data from NOAA satellites indicate that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 155 mph (245 km/h) with higher gusts. Iota is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Iota could be a catastrophic category 5 hurricane when it approaches Central America tonight, and rapid weakening is expected after landfall.ELSEWHERE IN THE TROPICS: An area of low pressure could form in a few days over the central or southwestern Caribbean Sea, just east of Hurricane Iota.
