BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – An early morning fire at a dry cleaner in Bonita Springs may be the work of an arsonist.
The fire destroyed most of what was inside of ‘A Touch of Class Dry Cleaners’ right off Old 41 on Bernwood Drive.
It’s just the latest blow in a year where the business was struggling to make it by. The coronavirus pandemic slowed business down to a near halt.
“It’s slowed down really bad,” said Dulce, the store’s manager.
She and her three employees took a hit in their paychecks.The fire made a bad situation worse.
They all found out Tuesday morning when they showed up for work.
“I wasn’t thinking about me,” said the manager. “I was thinking about my girls that work in the back.”
With Christmas days away, the manager is thinking about her workers and their families.
“They have no money, you know? They’ve been trying to survive with little money,” she said.
A frequent customer got a surprise, instead of their clean clothes.
“I was in shock,” said David Carson. “Great people. Friendly people. And they provide a great service to the community.”
The manager is now asking the community for help, not for herself, but for her workers.
“Anything that you guys can get them it would be a lot of help for them,” she said/
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating how the fire started.
