Good late Saturday evening, everyone. I hope you all had the chance to enjoy the day since we had pretty much mostly sunny skies throughout the day. On the backside of a weak wave and a cold front that passed on through this morning, the radar did show some light scattered showers for some areas along and south of I-44. After that didn’t amount to anything, we did trend a bit cooler compared to our Friday. After seeing highs in the middle 50s on Friday, we started cold in the lower 30s this morning and saw highs only climb back into the upper 40s.

As we expected, the cold front that finished working through early in the morning is to the east of us and stronger as it continues to bring rain and snow for the eastern States for the rest of the weekend. Behind it, we have a few areas of high pressure keeping us quiet for the day ahead.

Not only is the front to the east of us now. So, too, is the upper level wave that brought in some cooler air for today. Like the front, the upper wave over Michigan got its act together and will keep rain and snow chances for the eastern third of the country around for Sunday. I do want to point out another quick upper-level low coming out of western Nebraska. While it won’t bring a big change our way for Sunday, it will bring some passing clouds for some as it passes by.

This wave wants to bring some partly cloudy skies our way for some during the overnight. Despite that and a light southwest breeze at 5-10 mph, it will be a cold start to our Sunday morning with most spots in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees.

Sundayam

If we had another chance for the passing upper-level wave to bring in some additional partly sunny skies, it would be during the morning and to start the afternoon out. Otherwise, we’ll have plenty of sunshine on tap and a light westerly breeze send highs back near 50 for Joplin and our corners of Missouri and Arkansas. For our corners of Kansas and Oklahoma, we’ll have highs topping out in the lower to middle 50s.

Heading into Christmas week, we’ll stay partly sunny and chilly for Monday as an upper-level ridge starts to sneak in. That means after we start in the middle 30s for Monday morning, we’ll top out in the upper 50s for our first day of winter. If you think that’s a tad too warm to start winter out, look at Tuesday. The upper-ridge with partly sunny skies will send us into the lower to middle 60s for Tuesday afternoon.

Don’t get too attached to numbers like that, though. Sticking with Doug’s pattern, we’ll have our next proper system work in on Wednesday. With this, I see rain chances in the forecast. However, the timing isn’t quite set in stone. Regardless, we’ll see temperatures start early with highs in the middle 50s and dropping through the day as this will start to bring in much colder air.

Wedsystem

When it comes to how this leaves us for Christmas Eve, this system could leave us with a few flurries or few light snow showers before it departs Thursday morning. Otherwise, we’ll drop into the lower 20s for Thursday morning and only top out in the lower 30s.

Coldchristmaseve

Following that cold Christmas Eve with partly sunny skies, we’ll turn mostly sunny and stay dry for Christmas Day with lows near 20 and highs in the lower to middle 40s. While we don’t have a great shot at a white Christmas, it will definitely feel like Christmas this year.

Coolchristmas

Following Christmas Day and sticking with Doug’s pattern, we’ll keep an eye on another system coming at us from the west and southwest by Saturday.

Satamsystem

The system will start to bring in mostly cloudy skies for Saturday with some rain chances possible in the afternoon and for Saturday evening. It seems that those rain chances will continue on into that following Sunday and Monday. If you’re curious about how we wrap up the year and kick off 2021, Doug has your long range forecast out through the end of January below.

Have a good night and a great Sunday!
