There is a slight chance for light rain west of the I-81 corridor, as well as a slight chance for some wintry mix along the west-facing slopes of Pocahontas and Greenbrier counties in West Virginia, due to a weak cold front passing through. However, much of Southwest and Central Virginia will stay dry for Monday.
Cloud cover will be variable, ranging from mostly cloudy to mostly sunny skies throughout the day, Clouds are expected to be more stubborn west of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Wind gusts up to 25 mph may occur in the New River Valley and Alleghany Highlands. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 50s in the Roanoke Valley, Southside, and Central Virginia while the New River Valley and Alleghany Highlands will experience afternoon highs in the 40s.
The slight chance for rain will linger into the evening hours. Otherwise, low temperatures will be in the cold low 30s and 20s.
It will be noticeably cooler Tuesday and Wednesday due to Monday’s cold front. Afternoon highs will be in the 40s. Tuesday will offer us plentiful sunshine, but skies will become cloudy Wednesday ahead of our next rainmaker.
Rain chances will increase throughout the day Thursday with scattered showers mainly moving in during the afternoon. Widespread rain will become likely late Thursday evening into New Year’s Day. Rainfall totals of 1 – 2″ are possible and this will be an all-rain event since high temperatures will be in the mild upper 50s/low 60s Thursday and Friday. If you’re ringing in the New Year at midnight, temperatures will be in the 50s. For those with plans, keep in mind that wet weather is looking likely and roads will be rain-slicked. Stay safe and plan ahead.
The wet weather will taper off late Friday and winds will pick up in some spots. The weather will shape up to be dry and quiet for the first weekend of 2021.
