From thundersnow to snowfall rates of 2-3"/hour it was a wild night in southern New England. And from rapidly falling temperatures to moderate snow and sleet this morning, the accumulations continued to mount. On average, we've picked up 8-12" of snow, with the highest totals in northern and western RI and the lowest amounts across coastal areas.
Bands of light snow will gradually taper off in the early to mid afternoon from west to east. In addition, winds are still gusting over 40mph at times. Blowing and drifting snow will continue to make travel difficult and isolated power outages are possible. A rapid drop in temperatures has led to a "flash freeze" making for icy conditions and difficult snow removal.
