It’s winter, but gusty Santa Ana winds and low humidity levels have brought dangerous fire conditions back to Southern California Monday.
Forecasters are calling for gusty winds between 35 and 50 mph in some mountain and foothill areas. Breezy conditions are also expected at times across the coastal regions, according to the National Weather Service.
The dry winds will result in low humidity and dangerous fire weather. Several hours of critical conditions are possible.
Areas expecting the majority of the wind include the San Gabriel Mountains and foothills, Santa Clarity Valley, western San Fernando Valley, Santa Monica Mountains and the eastern Ventura County valleys.
Gusty winds are also expected for parts of the Inland Empire Monday. Wind are forecast to be between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph in Fontana.
Southern California Edison has been enacting public safety power shutoffs during periods of dangerous fire weather lately, but no shutoffs were planned for Monday, according to the utility’s website.
The National Weather Service has asked residents to avoid any outdoor actives that could spark a wildfire during these dry and windy conditions.
