WATCH: Dry few days, ahead of wet & wintry Friday

ANNOUNCER: YOUR WXII 12 FORECAST IS ALWAYS AVAILABLE ON THE FREE WXII12 APP. SNAKE ADDICTED -- STAY CONNECTED WITH BRIAN SLOCUMB ON HIS FACEBOOK PAGE. BRIAN: WE ARE COMING INTO THE BOTTOM HALF OF THE 6:00 HOUR. WE HAVE CHILLY CONDITIONS OVER THE AREA UNDER CLEARING SKIES, ABOUT 30 MINS FROM NOW THE INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION WILL CROSS OVEROUR LOCAL SKY. IT WILL PASS HIGH UNDER RELATIVELY CLEAR SKIES AT AROUND 6:51 THIS MORNING FOR ABOUT FOUR MINUTES. CHECK THAT OUT IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO LOOK OUTSIDE. MORE DETAILS IN THE NEXT HALF HOUR. HIGH PRESSURE WILL KEEP SKIES CLEAR TODAY. WET WEATHER OUT WEST. WE ARE STARTING TO SEE SOME WET WEATHER DEVELOPING OVER TEXAS. THIS IS OUR LOW, STARTING TO STRENGTHEN AS IT PICKS UP SOME GULF MOISTURE. 50 IS AHEAD OF THE BOUNDARIES. WE HAVE 30’S HERE LOCALLY. TEMPERATURES WILL HOVER NEAR FREEZING AS THE STORM BEGINS TO TAKE SHAPE IN THE UPPER 20’S FOR MANY OF OUR MOUNTAIN LOCATIONS. TRIAD TEMPERATURES PRETTY TYPICAL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. MAY BE MILDER. 40 IN BURLINGTON, LOW TO MID 30’S FROM GREENSBORO TO WINSTON-SALEM. THE FORECAST IS FOR SUNSHINE. SOME LATE DAY CLOUD COVER, BUT THE SUN WILL DOMINATE, BRINGING HIGHEST TO NEAR AVERAGE. THE AVERAGE HIGH FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR WILL BE 48, AND THAT IS OUR HIGH FOR TODAY. A FEW MORE CLOUDS OVERNIGHT, MANY MORE FOR THURSDAY. TEMPERATURES UPPER 40’S, ALSO FOR THE FOOTHILLS TODAY, TURNING MOSTLY TO PARTLY SUNNY THIS AFTERNOON. MIGHT SEE A FEW FLURRIES THIS MORNING, NOT MUCH. IT IS WINDY AND COOL TODAY, PERHAPS A FEW MORE ADDED CLOUDS AND HIGHS IN THE UPPER 30’S. HERE IS YOUR HOUR-BY-HOUR FORECAST. LATE THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY, WET WEATHER SHOULD BEGIN AS RAIN IN MOST AREAS, MAYBE SNOW OR A RAIN-SNOW MIX IN THE MOUNTAINS. THIS GETS US INTO THE EARLY PART OF THE MORNING HOURS. AS TEMPERATURES COOL DOWN, WE WILL SEE SOME SNOW MIXING IN. HERE IS THE CATCH -- I DON’T THINK TEMPERATURES DROP BELOW FREEZING, AND THAT IS GOING TO BE KEY. WE MIGHT HAVE STRAIGHT SNOW FROM TIME TO TIME, BUT I DON’T THINK IT TURNS ROADS. MAYBE THE GRASSY ARE SURFACES, BUT THE RAIN IS GOING TO CUT INTO THE TOTALS. THE KEY TO THE FORECAST IS HOW MUCH THAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN. BECAUSE OF THAT FACT, IT IS HARD TO SAY HOW MUCH WE ARE GOING TO SEE FROM THIS. I THINK THERE IS SOME CONFIDENCE WE WILL GET SOME FALLING SNOW, MODERATE CONFIDENCE, BUT LOW CONFIDENCE IN THE AMOUNT BECAUSE OF THE LIMITING RAIN FACTOR. THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE AN ICE STORM, THIS WILL BE RAIN OR SNOW OR BOTH, SO SOMETHING TO KEEP IN MIND. THAT WILL LIMIT THE ICING THIS IN THE TREES AND THE POWER OUTAGES, BUT THE SNOW THAT IS FALLING, AND IF IT IS TICKING, COULD BE HEAVY AND WET. THAT COULD CAUSE -- IF IT IS STICKING, COULD BE HEAVY AND WET. THAT COULD CAUSE SOME PROBLEMS IN THE AREA. SOUTH WILL BE MORE RAIN AND MAYBE JUST ALL RAIN AS THE RAIN-SNOW LINE IS GOING TO CUT THROUGH OUR AREA. OUR FORECAST CHALLENGE THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS IS TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TEMPERATURES ARE GOING TO BE AND HOW MUCH RAIN-SNOW MIX IS GOING TO FAVOR ONE OR THE OTHER. IT IS DONE BY FRIDAY AFTERNOON OR EARLY EVENING. WE WILL BE DRYING OUT COOLING DOWN THIS WEEKEND.
