Dry through most of Saturday; SNOW looks to return Saturday night-Sunday - WVVA TV

A WINTER STORM WATCH is in effect for Pocahontas, Greenbrier, Fayette, Summers, Monroe, Giles, Mercer, Wythe, Bland, Tazewell, McDowell, and Wyoming counties from Saturday night-Sunday afternoon.

We look to stay dry into tonight, with lows for most dropping into the 20s. Aside from passing clouds, and/or a few flurries/flakes north of I-64, we should stay tranquil into early Saturday.

Most of Saturday is looking dry as well, but we'll see steadily increasing cloud cover throughout the day, and the breeze will pick up again as well. By Saturday evening, after sunrise, a few rain/snow showers (possibly with a little ice in the mix too) look to develop.

Mainly snow will then be in store for most of the area as temps drop below freezing for most late Saturday night-early Sunday. PREPARE FOR SEVERAL INCHES OF ACCUMULATING WET SNOW AND SLICK ROADS late weekend!

Snow showers (with some rain still mixing in far west of I-77) look to be on tap for the first half of Sunday, eventually fading into the afternoon and evening.

Highs on Sunday will top off in the low upper 20s-mid 30s, and road conditions should improve a bit with melting and drying during the afternoon.

Most of our area looks to receive 3-5" of snowfall, with locally higher amounts of up to 5" or 6", especially at elevations above 3,500-4,000 ft and along the I-81 corridor. With more rain and a little ice mixing in and cutting down on totals, the coalfields/parts of Buchanan, Western McDowell, and Western Wyoming (for example) look to receive more like 1-3" with highest amounts east, lowest amounts west.

THIS FORECAST WILL BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE BASED ON HOW MODEL DATA TRENDS INTO TONIGHT, SO PLEASE STAY TUNED!

We'll still be cold despite Sunday night being dry however, so slick areas and/or black ice will still be possible in many spots into early next week.

At a glance, next week is looking unsettled with the chance of a least a spotty wintry mix Tues-Wed, with more snow showers late week as a major cold snap looks to arrive...make sure to tune in to WVVA NEWS at 5,6, 10 (CW) and 11 PM for the latest full forecast!
