Good Chance Of Rain & Snow Saturday Night Into Sunday AM
Tonight’s Forecast Low: 28F / Saturday’s Forecast High: 47F…
The high temp reached 40F or warmer every day this week in La Crosse, including today with a high of 41F. It felt chillier though, thanks to blustery south winds 10-20 mph and gusts to around 30 mph at times. The mild conditions this week melted lots of snow… with the snow depth at the La Crosse airport falling from 14″ on Monday… to 6″ today.
A weak and moisture starved boundary will track east across the region tonight. I think we’ll just see some passing clouds and perhaps some isolated sprinkles or flurries in spots. Expect overnight lows mainly in the mid-upper 20s for most.
Expect plenty of sunshine Saturday morning, then increasing clouds through the afternoon. Temps will be mild, with highs well into the 40s and some spots could even flirt with 50F! A stronger system will bring a pretty good chance of rain and snow to the region Saturday night, with snow showers lingering into Sunday morning.
Snow accumulations should be minimal near and south/east of La Crosse, since the precip will fall as rain or a rain/snow mix at times. A better chance of snow exists in areas north and west of La Crosse, where a swath of 1″ to 3″ of snow will be possible through midday Sunday. Some models are even hinting at a narrow band of heavier snow, but most show that band setting up north and west of our viewing area.
The snow showers should taper or shift east by lunch time Sunday. Otherwise, it will be breezy and chillier with highs in the mid-upper 30s. Blustery NW winds 10-20 mph and gusts around 30 mph, will make it feel even colder. A weak disturbance could cause some snow flurries Sunday night, especially across northern sections of the viewing area.
Looking Ahead… We kick off the month of March on Monday on a dry, but chilly note… with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s. Mostly sunny and warmer Tuesday with highs in the low 40s, but it will also be rather breezy.
Wednesday through Thursday is looking mainly dry and mild at this point, with highs ranging from the mid-upper 40s to around 50F. Expect lots of sunshine Wednesday, then some passing clouds later Thursday into Friday morning… thanks to a system passing by to our south. Partly sunny skies are expected for next Saturday. Overall, it’s looking like a pretty quiet start to the month of March around here.
Happy Friday and have a great weekend! -Bill Graul
