MORE WEATHER: Final snowfall totals from epic storm

A relatively long stretch of dry weather is ahead in New Jersey with no precipitation expected in four of the next five days as snow from the massive three-day winter storm slowly starts to melt.

The exception will be Friday when much of the state might see early, light snow before the precipitation changes to all rain by late morning, forecasters say.

Some sleet could also mix during the transition to rain, the National Weather Service said in its Thursday morning forecast discussion. Areas north of the Interstate 78 corridor have the best chance to receive about an inch of snow with the rest of the state seeing little to no accumulation on Friday.

Highs on Friday will climb into the mid 40s before dipping into the 20s at night, by which time rain will have ended.

Thursday, meanwhile will be the first fully dry day since Saturday. Forecasters are calling for sunny skies with highs around 40, though winds that gust to about 20 mph will make it feel chillier.

Nighttime lows will fall into the 20s so slippery conditions are possible as snow melts during the day and then re-freezes overnight.

The weekend also looks uneventful weather-wise. Saturday will be nearly a carbon copy of Thursday — sunny and somewhat windy with highs near 40. Temperatures will also climb to about 40 Sunday with sun and much calmer winds.

Dry condition continue into Monday, though the mercury only reaches the low 30s. There’s another chance of rain and snow on Tuesday and Wednesday but there’s no indication a major storm threat.
