Good morning. We have day of well-deserved sunshine and dry air, before another round of wintry weather on Thursday and Friday. A WINTER STORM WATCH has been issued for most of southern and central New England from Thursday morning through Friday. A “Watch” means there’s the potential for 6″ or more of snow. We’ll talk more about the storm below.

As for today, plan on a bright but chilly winter day. Despite sunny skies, temperatures will be 7-10 degrees below normal and a breezy wind this morning will add to the chill. Highs stay between 30-35 with northwest winds 5-15 mph and gusts to 25 mph in the morning.

It stays dry and cold tonight with clouds gradually increasing. Lows drop to the upper ‘teens to lower 20s.

This next storm will have more cold air to work with than the last storm, so some snow accumulations are likely. It’s a slow-moving system, taking it’s sweet ‘ole time passing to our south Thursday through Friday night.

Over the course of that time (about 30-36 hours) we’re expecting 3-7″ of snow. While that’s a moderate accumulation, it will be more manageable spread out over the two days.

TIMELINE: Thursday morning commute remains cold, dry and cloudy and travel will be fine. Light snow begins in the afternoon, with little to no accumulation expected during the day. By Thursday evening, the snow will turn steadier and begin to mix with sleet Thursday night. That will make for messy travel conditions into Friday morning commute. Lingering snow, sleet and freezing rain is expected Friday before ending as snow Friday evening.

Cold and dry weather returns for the weekend.
