Denver weather: Unseasonably warm, dry and windy conditions sparks fire concerns on Eastern Plains - The Denver Post

Unseasonably warm, dry weather with winds out of the south will create “very high fire danger” in eastern Colorado this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

A “red flag” warning for “critical fire weather conditions” has been posted by the weather service Saturday through 6 p.m. for most of the Eastern Plains, where winds are expected to gust to 40 mph and relative humidity will be as low as 11%. Elevated fire conditions exist east of Sterling, Akron and Limon and extend south to just north of Eads.

“Strong winds combined with low relative humidity may cause new fire starts to rapidly spread and grow,” the weather service said.

In Denver, skies will be mostly sunny as the high temperature climbs to 67 degrees, the weather service said. Sunday in the city, skies will be sunny and the high temp is expected to reach 70 degrees; Monday should be mostly sunny with a high temperature of 68 degrees.

Temperatures in northeastern Colorado will be “well above normal” through Tuesday and the weather will be dry.

There’s a chance for snow showers in the mountains Tuesday night, with the showers spreading to the foothills on Wednesday.
