Pinpoint Weather: Increased fire danger today as dry, mild and breezy conditions continue - WFXRtv.com

The National Weather Service has issued a special statement about the risk for wildfire danger this afternoon and evening. And a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Thursday as there are dry fuels on the ground, winds will pick up and the air is dry. Be mindful of anything that may spark a fire as it may spread quickly in these conditions.

The region continues to dry out and warm up and the winds are expected to pick up today as well. Dry fuel on the ground (pine needles, sticks, dead grass, leaves etc.) coupled with the weather pattern has increased the fire danger. Please be careful with all things ignitable and remember there is a burn ban in Virginia prohibition any burning from midnight until 4pm.

Expect to see even warmer weather Thursday as the area of high pressure continues to import the dry and mild pattern into the area. Fire weather concerns are likely once again. The highs today will once again cross the 70° mark and are expected to do so again Thursday and Friday. No rain is in the forecast until Friday, so our dry spell continues.

Friday will be a cloudy day yet still above normal as far as temps go. There will be a cold front moving through and that will do a few things. First of all, the winds will pick up a bit late Thursday into Friday, then the rain is slated to arrive. The rain will have a tough time making it to the ground as the atmosphere is very dry and it should evaporate rather easily.  I do expect to see the rain make it to the ground in the NRV, but most other locations should be cloudy with a very slight chance for rain.

Saturday is expected to be a cooler day but still above normal. Highs are expected to be in the low 60s and normal is the middle 50s.  A mixture of clouds and sunshine this weekend should be the best way to define the area. Both weekend days will be similar in temperature profile, and the area will be awaiting more rain slated for late Monday and most of the day Tuesday.   A wedge of cool air is slated to develop late Sunday into Monday which may cause some models to indicate a bit of wintry weather next week. No one model agrees with another as far as the wintry precip goes, but it does seem a bit far fetched to indicate snow after the 70s, but it has happened before so I will keep an eye on that for us.

Also, this weekend we Spring Forward with our clocks, set them ahead one hour at 2am Sunday morning.  Daylight Saving Time. Also, check the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide monitors to stay safe.

Stay safe
