It was another frigid start to the day, with temperatures in the ‘teens. How unusually cold is it? We fell to within a few degrees of the record low.
It stays well below normal this afternoon, with highs in the mid to upper 30s. Expect the clouds to thicken through the afternoon. We’ll have lighter north winds today, turning south-southwest in the afternoon at 5-10 mph.
You’ll start to notice the cold air retreating tonight with mostly cloudy skies and near steady temperatures in the upper 20s to low 30s. There could be a passing flurry, but most spots stay dry.
We’re back to more seasonable highs on St. Patrick’s Day with afternoon temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. Clouds and sun will mix with dry skies and light winds.
Our attention then turns to a storm system that will pass to our south late Thursday into Friday. While the air ahead of that system will be mild, with highs in the 50s Thursday afternoon, the storm will draw in cold air as it moves south and east of Nantucket Thursday night. A gradual mix or change to wet snow is possible from north or south by Friday morning. Snow or a wintry mix lingers in the first half of Friday before gradually drying out in the afternoon. A small slushy accumulation is possible, mainly well inland. Stay tuned!
