Many love how dry and mild it has been this March but this lack of moisture may be problematic.
While in the Red River Valley we saw a few showers from a storm system that’s soaking others, many of us are starting to missing out on the moisture.
We're starting to need it too. So far in 2021, both Fargo and Grand Forks have yet to reach the inch mark as far as moisture is concerned; that’s rain as well as melted snow.
Snow has been pretty meager this winter, we are a foot and a half low on snow in Fargo and more than two feet short of average in Grand Forks.
Our dry weather began even before our wimpy winter. Grand forks recorded the driest fall through 1893, while Fargo was the 20th driest since 1881.
Adding it all up, most weather stations across North Dakota and western Minnesota have picked up less than 25% of their average precipitation since September 1st.
This has culminated in numerous soil and drought monitors indicating abnormally dry to severe drought conditions.
With planting just around the corner, many are starting to hope that moisture will shift our way.
