We have a good chance of scattered light precipitation tonight, otherwise it is really a very dry outlook right through most of next week! The weak cold front passing through tonight should generate scattered light rain showers by late evening. They may be most numerous in northern Wisconsin. As temperatures drop, a bit of snow could mix in, especially in the north. The precipitation will push away from our area before daybreak as temperatures drop to the mid to low 30s in the area. Winds will be from the northwest at 5-10 mph.
Friday should bring a mix of sun and clouds, although the clouds could get fairly thick at times from midday into the afternoon. It will be even cooler with that polar air sliding in from Canada. Highs will stay in the low to mid 50s. Northwest winds of 7-15 mph will add a bit of extra chill to the air for good measure.
The weekend looks pretty quiet around our area. However, a large storm system in the Central Plains may spread quite a bit of cloud cover into our region Saturday afternoon into Sunday. At this point it looks like the rain shield from that system would just sneak up to southern Wisconsin late Saturday into Sunday. It certainly bears watching in case it jogs a bit further north. Keep the spring coats and gloves handy as lows will be around 30 Saturday morning and 35 Sunday morning. Highs may touch 58 on Saturday and just 56 degrees Sunday, 7 to 9 degrees below normal.
Monday and Tuesday should remain dry with a decent amount of sunshine with high pressure nearby. Lows will stay frosty in the low 30s with highs around 57 Monday and 61 Tuesday. Thankfully, the winds look fairly light.
Slightly warmer air will work in by next Wednesday with lows around 36 and highs around the low 60s. It should be partly sunny. Next Thursday may stay partly sunny and pleasant with highs in the mid 60s. There is a small chance of a shower Thursday.
Let's hope we don't have any more cold snaps as we get deeper into May!

*On this date in weather history:
1975 - A massive tornado hit Omaha, NE, killing three persons, injuring 133 others, and causing 150 million dollars damage. The tornado struck during the late afternoon moving northeastward through the industrial and residential areas of west central Omaha and lifting over the northern section of the city. The twister, which cut a swath ten miles long and as much as a quarter of a mile wide, was the mostly costly in U.S. history up until that time. (David Ludlum)
1989 - Sixteen cities in the north central U.S. reported record low temperatures for the date. Morning lows of 17 at Bismarck ND and 26 at Minneapolis MN were the coldest of record for so late in the season. A reading of 43 degrees at the start of the Kentucky Derby was the coldest in 115 years of records. Light snow was reported in the Upper Midwest, with an inch reported at Chicago IL.
