Mild and breezy weather continues, fire danger grows each dry day - WOKV

Jacksonville, Fl — Today will be another mild, breezy and mainly dry day. Action News Jax Chief Meteorologist Mike Buresh is tracking temperatures in the lower 80s inland, and near 80 degrees along the coast. Isolated showers are possible off the Atlantic, but they won’t amount to much.

Winds will be out of the east at 10-15 mph inland and 15-20 at times closer to the coast. The winds, coupled with our recent dry stretch, has raised fire danger to very high.

The rest of this week will be breezy with onshore winds continuing. Highs will remain in the lower to mid 80s. We will approach 90 degrees by the end of the weekend.

Next week will be hot with highs in the lower to mid 90s and we will be mainly dry.

“We’ve dried out in a hurry. It just doesn’t take long. We lose a quarter to a third of an inch of moisture from the ground this time of year each day if it doesn’t rain“, said Buresh, who is very concerned about the wildfire threat into next week.

A wildfire south of World Golf Village is now estimated at 693 acres and 90% contained. Florida Forest Service will continue on this fire over the next several days.
