One of the latest films to capture audiences’ attention is The Dry, which had its premiere in Melbourne back in December 2020. The Australian release followed on New Year’s Day, but US audiences were left to wait – until now, that is.

- The Dry is available in US cinemas and on-demand from Friday, May 21st 2021.
It is being distributed by IFC Films and is based on Jane Harper’s 2016 book of the same name. Those who don’t wish to seek it out on the big screen will be able to rent from home on the likes of Amazon Prime Video.
As of yet, a UK release date is yet to be announced.
The film was directed by Robert Connolly and follows Aaron Falk (played by Eric Bana) as he returns to his drought-stricken hometown for a funeral. His return home stirs up old tragedy and curiosity surrounding the unsolved death of a teenage girl.

While in conversation with ScreenRant, the Australian filmmaker was asked how he approached his treatment of the drought and how he explored the effect it had on residents:
“… that was really at the heart of it all. And we filmed five and a half hours from here – out in the Bush Maze part of the world, in a little town called Warracknabeal, and all these satellite towns around it. We needed to film authentically in the real world of it. ”
He added: “I love how cinema takes people to somewhere they’ve never been, and that an audience in the US can be transported by this film to a part of the world they’ve never experienced or visited.”
