Denver weather: Hot, dry pattern continues along with air quality concerns - The Denver Post

Hot, dry weather continues a dominant pattern along the Front Range, elevating fire dangers as smoke from the Western Slope fires raise air quality health concerns.

The weather pattern will continue its run through the weekend in Denver and northeastern Colorado, although there will be a chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms on Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service forecast. What little stormy weather arises, however, will likely produce just light precipitation.

In Denver on Thursday skies will be sunny and the high temperature will hit 96 degrees, according to the weather service.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued an Action Day for multiple pollutants through 4 p.m. Thursday. The posting is for: Douglas, Jefferson, Denver, western Arapahoe, western Adams, Broomfield, Boulder, Larimer, and Weld counties.

Western Slope wildfires — Grizzly Creek and Pine Gulch — have been producing massive smoke plumes that have been drifting east into the Front Range and the metro area. Ozone and Fine Particulate concentrations, because of the fires, could reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category on Thursday. Air quality will be a concern in the metro area and north along the I-25 corridor to Longmont and west into the foothills.

Friday in Denver will be another hot and dry day with a high temperature of 97 degrees and winds gusting to 21 mph, the weather service said.

On Saturday there’s a 10% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms as the high temp tops out at 96 degrees, according to the weather service. Sunday’s forecast calls for a chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, mostly sunny skies and a high near 92 degrees.
