Jason Gough's forecast: Mostly dry today, before the humidity fires back up - Times Union

dry.indah.link

Welp, we landed #2 on the list of consecutive days of 80 degrees or better in 2020. The streak ended on Monday, it took 5 days to get back to 80 again with our 83 yesterday. We've plenty more to go, friends. Like today, for example.

We'll heat up with some more 90s to add to our seasonal total through mid week, with your typical afternoon pop-up storms. As is usually the case in these parts, lots of humidity will be along for the ride. We'll gradually lose the big heat but we'll still stay quite warm as we get through the second half of the work week.

Today

We're kicking the day off with a mostly clear sky with some thin clouds spreading from about Lake George into the Champlain Valley. All the while, there are a couple of isolated showers from Saratoga County up to Glens Falls, where a little shot of heavy rain is falling. Oh the challenges of our weather sometimes!

Temperatures are sitting in the upper 50s to the middle 60s, with dewpoints just a few degrees behind at most.

Through the day, we'll have a mainly dry sky. That said, not everyone gets by without a quick shower. Skies will be mostly sunny to start with some cumulus popping up as we get deeper into the morning and into the afternoon. A few scattered showers and storms will fire up to the north and west of the Capital District, with the best opportunity from Lake George into the southern Adirondacks. Not a washout by any means, rather something to be aware of if you're up that way. Just be ready to get under cover to let it pass is all.

Highs today will top out in the upper 70s to the middle 80s, with humidity becoming a bit more noticeable as we get into the afternoon, too. And if you think this afternoon is humid, you ain't seen nuthin' yet.

We'll have a quiet night, any showers will dry up as the sun sets. Temperatures will slowly fall off and settle in the 60s overnight.

Tomorrow and Tuesday

Summer is back in full force. Tomorrow will see the humidity jump up, with dewpoints climbing into the low 70s. Temperatures will top out in the 80s to low 90s, with the warmest readings south of Albany down the Hudson Valley. It's a good bet that heat advisories will be issued for those areas. We'll have a few showers and storms pop up as well, models are highlighting areas to the west of the Hudson Valley, specifically the Catskills and to a lesser degree, the Adirondacks.

It'll be a warm and muggy night with lows in the 60s and low 70s as any storms die off late.

That'll lead to the hottest day of the week, Tuesday. Highs will range from the upper 80s to the middle 90s and with humidity to match, a larger chunk of our area will be under heat advisories I'm sure. We'll also have some widely scattered storms firing up, and unlike tomorrow, they'll not be specific to any one area. Most of us will stay dry but anyone that does get under one of these storms will know it as there will be some heavy rain and perhaps some gusty wind too.

Wednesday and Beyond

A weak cold front will limp its way through late Tuesday night and settle to our south on Wednesday. It'll get hung up somewhere in the mid-Hudson Valley, and that'll have a few showers and storms popping up with the afternoon heat. Like the previous days, any storms will be widely scattered with heavy rain and some wind. It'll be another warm to hot day with lots of humidity, but both the air and dewpoint temperatures will be a couple of degrees lower than Tuesday.

Thursday into Friday will be much the same, depending on how far south and how long that front sits. We'll overall stay warm and on the humid side with a few scattered showers to the south of Albany as things look now, with temps staying in the 80s.

Have a great day!
