Rainfall deficit grows as dry weather rolls on - WREX-TV

ROCKFORD (WREX) — While not in drought conditions yet, the lack of rainfall leads to quite a deficit in Rockford and the rest of the Stateline. Rainfall chances are lacking for the rest of the week.

Sunny and comfortable:

While a few rainy days would be nice to get the area back on track, the weather is fairly easy to plan around and also comfortable. Conditions haven't been too hot, and the humidity has been low. Look for this kind of weather to last for a couple more days.

Wednesday starts out fall-like with temperatures in the middle 50's. The weather warms quickly and gets back into the low 80's by the afternoon, which is around average. Humidity stays low, and the sky stays sunny.

We get a copy of this weather for Thursday, then some changes come on Friday. Summer weather returns with a little more heat and a lot more humidity. The weather won't be too muggy, but with the air being so dry currently you'll notice a difference by Friday. Temperatures on Friday warm into the middle 80's.

Weekend rain?:

We're in need of rain, but the weather doesn't want to cooperate, at least for now. There is only one chance for rain, and it doesn't get here until Saturday evening.

The chance for rain, for now, remains low thanks to the long range models differing. A couple models bring in a line of showers and possibly a few storms (with a slight risk of heavy rainfall). One keeps the weather dry. We'll keep an eye on this and pass along updates as the forecast continues to evolve.

While we've had a little rain from time-to-time this summer, overall there's been a lot more dry weather than not. That's lead to a rainfall deficit of nearly 4", which is close to a month's worth of rain. August usually is the 2nd wettest month of the year, but this time around we aren't getting nearly as much as we usually do.

The potential showers come in ahead of a cold front, which will not change temperatures much. Saturday stays in the middle 80's ahead of the front, then the low 80's for Sunday and Monday behind the front.

The humidity does change a little as this cold front slides through. Moisture levels don't change much, but the air won't feel as muggy by the end of the weekend.

Looking long-term, the rest of the month looks to be drier than usual. We may still get some rainfall, but more often than not the weather could stay dry until the end of the month.
