This weekend may be the last chance for 90-degree days this month. Thursday added onto 2020’s record for most days in the Denver area with 90 degrees or more in a calendar year. Friday’s expected high of 90 degrees may push that record to 76 days. Enjoy sunny skies and some light winds that may go up to 17 mph.
Frank Cooper at the National Weather Service in Boulder said the region is under a red flag warning in terms of fire danger due to the hot temperatures.
“We looks like we’ll shoot for 90 for today and Saturday,” Cooper said.
Clouds will come in by Friday night, setting the low at around 57 degrees.
By Saturday, winds are expected to pick up speed with gusts up to 22 mph. Cooper said the wind speed and a high near 90 are not helpful with the ongoing wildfires in the state. Sunny skies will stick around Saturday, but there will be some cloud cover.
Cooper said by Saturday night, a cold front will take away the high temperatures and cool things down to seasonal numbers.
“We have a system coming in from the northern Rockies coming through,” Cooper said. “We will see some showers, but unfortunately not a lot of them.”
The chance of showers will come after noon Sunday at 20%, and rain will most likely be in the foothills, plains and mountains, Cooper said. Otherwise, it’s expected to be mostly sunny, but the high will be around 69 degrees. Winds will also increase speed with gusts up to 30 mph. Sunday night will see the low drop to 38 degrees.
Monday and Tuesday will continue with seasonal temperatures in the mid-60s to the mid-70s under sunny skies.
