Pinpoint Weather:  Labor Day Weekend looks dry and warm

It will be a quiet pattern for the next few days as high pressure moves in behind a cold front that will migrate through the Commonwealth today. Not much in the way of rain is anticipated as the front slides through, but a few showers and an isolated storm are not out of the question. As for the rest of the holiday weekend, the region looks sunny and warm.

Saturday brings out the sunshine as high pressure sets up camp.  High pressure can be explained as a large dome of air that effectively keeps the area underneath on the dry side.  The air around the high flows clockwise and pushes away from the center of the dome so it does help to keep the skies clear.  This is not always the case as sometimes some clouds sneak under the bubble but it is usually a good bet to call for clear skies.  Big bubble, no trouble is an expression a lot of weather folks like to use.  Highs on Saturday will be in the upper 70s to low 80s as the flow will be from the Northwest, migrating in the cooler air.

The high builds and maintains a presence here on Sunday as the quiet weather pattern continues.  Temperatures stay about the same, rising only a couple degrees from Saturday’s highs. Not much different on Monday as the high builds but starts to shift east.  This will open the door for a bit warmer air to arrive as the flow around the high will be able to tap into the warmer air from the south and west. Highs will be in the middle 80s on Labor Day.

Tuesday continues the warm and dry pattern but the high starts to elongate and that will open the door for a few more clouds as the large dome gets deteriorated. Rain is expected to return by the middle of the week, but may take until Thursday before we get some measurable moisture in the buckets.

Enjoy the holiday weekend, weather should not be an issue for your outdoor events.  Remember to stay socially distant and safe. Here are the forecasts for Virginia Beach and Myrtle Beach. One is drier the other is warmer.

Stay safe and healthy
