Adam Burniston's Forecast | Storms and rain return to the forecast - WKYT

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - While we wrap up a beautiful weekend, an active pattern is coming in for this workweek ahead as a front stall across our region.

To begin this Sunday morning, we won’t have a frost/freeze threat, but temperatures will start on a chilly note in the upper 30s and lower 40s. Mostly clear skies will begin the day as well, but as we continue throughout the afternoon and into the night, clouds will be increasing from the northwest ahead of our next system. Before that system, though, we’ll keep most of Sunday on the dry side before rain shows up later into the night. On Sunday, highs are expected to reach the mid to upper 60s, depending on how much sunshine or cloud cover you receive.

By Monday, showers and thunderstorms will continue to increase across portions of central and northern Kentucky. These showers are with a cold front that moves in from the northwest and then stalls out across our region. Because of this front stalling, temperatures will vary Monday afternoon significantly with the mid to lower 50s across northern Kentucky to mid and upper 60s across the south. Southern Kentucky will also see fewer rain chances throughout the day, and some may even stay dry throughout the day.

Our pattern will stay active with more scattered showers and thunderstorms in the forecast on Tuesday and Wednesday before a brief break on Thursday. However, as we head into the end of the week and next week, another more potent cold front shows up in the forecast bringing back even more showers once again. Highs through much of the workweek will be in the 70s, but after next weekend’s cold front, it appears we could drop into another Fall chill.
