Storm Tracker Forecast: Dry today, but wet & cooler weather is ahead - Action News Now

Be prepared for a colder start to your Thursday forecast. Looks like you're going to want that jacket on your way out the door this morning. Temperatures have dipped into the 30's in the valley, 30's to 40's in the foothills, and into the teens to 20's in our mountain areas overnight. Skies are clear for the start of your Thursday, but clouds will be increasing through the day as an area of low pressure starts to track south down the West Coast. Winds will mostly be light today, but will pick up to around 10mph out of the south this afternoon. We'll be partly cloudy late in the day, but are expecting to stay dry into tonight. High temperatures will end up several degrees cooler than Wednesday. Valley areas are projected to top out in the upper 50's to mid 60s, foothill areas are mostly expected to end up in the 50's, and out higher elevations will climb into the mid 40's to mid 50's this afternoon.

Low pressure tracking down along the coast will bring cooler temperatures, cloudy skies, and light rain and snow into our forecast on Friday. Snow levels will dip down to around 3000' in some areas, but amounts will not be very heavy. Our higher elevations can expect up to around 4 inches of snowfall on Friday into early Saturday. Rain totals are currently projected to end up anywhere between a few hundredths of an inch to around a quarter of an inch from Friday through early Saturday. Temperatures will start out in the 30's to 40's in the valley on Friday, and will end up in the upper 40's to mid 50's on Friday afternoon. Foothill areas can expect lows in the 30's to lower 40's on Friday morning and high temperatures in the upper 30's to mid 40's on Friday afternoon. Mountain areas will have temperatures mostly starting out in the 20's, and high temperatures in the 30's to mid 40's on Friday.

Looks like this first wet system will track to our south by early in the day on Saturday, and we'll be mostly dry for the first half of your weekend. Skies will be sunny to partly cloudy, and temperatures will rebound back into the 50's to low 60's in our valley areas. The next wet system will arrive on Sunday, and does look a bit more potent than the Friday system. We can expect moderate rain and snow from Sunday morning through very early on Monday. Temperatures will be much cooler with this wet system. Valley areas will top out in the 40's to lower 50's, foothill areas will end up in the 30's to lower 40's, and most of our mountain areas will top out in the 30's on Sunday afternoon. Snow levels will be down to around 2000', and some modest snowfall can be expected down into the foothills. Latest projections put around an inch of snow on the ground in Paradise from Sunday into early Monday. Some showers will linger in your forecast. Both low and high temperatures will stay below average from the start to middle of next week. Looks like we may see a break in the wet weather on Tuesday, but more rain and snow will arrive late Tuesday night into Wednesday. The current models are putting snow down to as low as the valley floor in some areas on Wednesday, and this system does look to pack a decent punch of moisture. We'll get a much better idea of how much rain and snow can be expected over the next few days, but if the current models hold we could be looking at upwards of 2 inches of rain in the valley, and upwards of 3 inches of rain in some of our higher elevations through the middle of next week.
