TUCSON (KVOA) – As many continue to work from home amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, dry cleaners across southern Arizona have lost significant business this summer.
Shaffer Dry Cleaning has been in Tucson since 1969 and their sales peaked at a negative level just in April.
According to Bake and Patricia Shaffer, who owns Shaffer Dry Cleaning, prior to the pandemic, they had been experienced a six-month increase in sales every month.
Then COVID-19 began to spread and they didn't have any business the last two weeks of March.
Throughout this five-month period, many sales at Shaffer have been from household items.
Now that it's August, they are starting to see sales improve little by little as the months go on. But, they are still trying to find ways on how to adapt to these trying times, such as offering contactless pickup and delivery.
"We just appreciate the attitude which our people have had through this pandemic. And, the attitude that I see from the vast majority from our customers is that it's going to take a collective effort in order to get through this. And, it's that collective effort that's going to make this a thing of the past," Bake Shaffer told News 4 Tucson.
"You'll look better on your zoom call if your shirt has been laundered or pressed," Patricia Shaffer added.
