Be prepared for areas of frost and fog as you head out the door on this Monday morning. A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for areas of the valley from Butte and Glenn Counties to the south through 11am. Skies are starting out mostly cloudy, but will become partly cloudy to mostly sunny this afternoon. High pressure continues to be the dominant feature in our forecast today, but that is expected to change soon. Temperatures are starting out in the 30's to 40's in the valley and foothills this morning, and in the 20's to 30's in most mountain areas. Winds will be out of the northwest to 10mph in the north valley, out of the southeast to 10mph in the mid valley, and out of the east to 10mph in the Sierra and foothills. Lighter winds are expected by this afternoon. High temperatures are projected to top out in the mid to high 50's in the valley today, and in the 40's to mid 50's in the foothills and mountains.
Models are currently split on when shower activity will return to our region, but most agree at least some wet weahter will be possible from tonight through Wednesday as an area of low pressure tracks into the Pacific Northwest. Some models bring light showers back into northern California tonight, while others hold off until Tuesday morning. Snow levels are projected to stay fairly high this week, with the Northern Mountains seeing light snow as low as 5500', and the Sierra & Southern Cascades seeing snow levels down to around 7000'. Temperatures will start out warmer on Tuesday, but will end up several degrees cooler than Monday afternoon in most areas. Most valley areas are expected to see around a tenth of an inch or less through Wednesday, but Redding could see close to a half inch of rain through that time. Areas closest to the coast will see the lions share of the rain and snow, with portions of Trinity County projected to get upwards of an inch to potentially 2 inches of rain through Wednesday night. Some portions of the Sierra could see up to a half inch of rain, but most will end up with far less than that through mid week. Temperatures will be warmer than Tuesday on Wednesday. Valley areas will start out in the mid 40's and are projected to top out in the upper 50's to lower 60's. Foothill areas will start out in the 40's to low 50's on Wednesday and end up in the mid to high 50's on Wednesday afternoon, while mountain areas start out in the 30's to 40's and end up in the 40's to 50's on Wednesday. We'll be staying just about as warm on Thursday morning, and we'll be getting several degrees warmer on Thursday afternoon. Valley areas are currently projected to top out in the mid to high 60's, but a couple cities could end up in the lower 70's. Friday will be a couple of degrees cooler for the morning and the afternoon, but temperatures will still end up well above average for this time of year. High pressure will keep us dry for the end of this week, and for most of this weekend. A slight chance for light showers will brush through our region late Friday night into Saturday morning.
The current weekend outlook keeps our region dry after the overnight showers on Friday into Saturday. Temperatures will dip into the upper 30's to lower 40's in the valley overnight, and will end up in the mid to high 60's for both afternoons. Foothill areas will dip into the 40's to low 50's both days this weekend, and will end up in the upper 50's to mid 60's in the afternoons. Mountain areas will dip into the 20's to 30's for the overnight hours this weekend, and will then top ut in the upper 40's to 50's for most locations in the afternoon. All around, it looks like a good weekend to make plans to be outside.
